Caption Dr. David B. Lackman
Description Dr. David B. Lackman was a bacteriologist who received his Ph.D. in 1933 from the University of Connecticut and joined the U.S. Public Health Service in 1941 as an assistant bacteriologist. He was assigned to work at the Rocky Mountain Laboratory in Hamilton, MT. He worked on serology at the laboratory and in the early 1960s used a fluorescence technique to identify Rickettsia rickettsii, or Rocky Mountain spotted fever, in the tissues of infected ticks and guinea pigs. Dr. Lackman also did some classification work on the spotted fever organisms.
