Caption Dr. William Chowning
Description Dr. William M. Chowning was a pathologist and arrived in the BItter Root Valley of Montana in the spring of 1902 with Dr. Louis B. Wilson to investigate the causes of Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever. Drs. Wilson and Chowning first suggested the tick as a vector for this disease, but were not able to conclusively prove this theory. Dr. Chowning eventually became a private practioner of medicine.
