Description Drs. Robert Purcell and John Gerin have worked together on the study of infectious diseases. Much of their career has been devoted to the discovery, identification and characterization of the various hepatitis viruses. Purcell and Gerin were key in the development of the hepatitis A vaccine and their research collaboration on the hepatitis viruses continues at the National Institutes of Health.
