Dr. Robert N. Philip and Elizabeth Casper worked in the epidemiology laboratory at the Rocky Mountain Laboratory. Shown are Dr. Philip and Ms. Casper examining a map. Dr. Philip received his medical degree from the University of California in 1948 and joined the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases in 1949 as a surgeon. Dr. Philip remained with NIAID until 1956 when he was transferred to the U.S. Public Health Service’s Arctic Health Research Center. In 1960 Dr. Philip became the medical director of the Rocky Mountain Laboratory and held this post until he became assistant laboratory director in 1964. Philip"s research focus was the epidemiology of infectious diseases.
