|Caption||AMINCO Spectronoline Quartz Pencil Mercury Lamp, J4-8176|
|Provenance||Used in Dr. Robert Berger’s lab in LTD, NHLBI while developing several instruments and at his lab at WRAIR. It was used for calibrating spectrophotometers, fluorometers, and provided a light source for optical instrumentation. Metals ionize producing light. The mercury lamp produces known bands of light so it is used to calibrate --it goes where the cuvette would go. From "AMINCO Fluorescence Accessories," AMINCO, 1977, page 38: "This Mercury Lamp accessory provides an inexpensive, accurate, and rapid means for calibrating the emission monochromator of the AMINCO-Bowman SPF and the SPF-125 unit. The attachment consists of a quartz-jacketed mercury lamp (J4-8176), a power transformer (J4-8177), and top cover. The small, low-pressure mercury discharge lamp provides a strong source of monochromatic wavelengths of the mercury line spectra."|
