Catalog type History
Provenance The Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale (WAIS) is supposed to measure the intelligence of adults and older teens. The original test was released in 1955 by David Wechsler, which replaced a 1939 Wechsler-Bellevue Intelligence Scale. Wechsler believed that general intelligence is composed of various specific and interrelated functions or elements that can be individully measured. His test differed greatly from the Binet scale in that it used the point scale instead of the age scale and had a non-verbal performance scale.

The WAIS-R was released in 1981. It has six verbal and five performance subtests and measures verbal intelligence, performance intelligence, and full scale intelligence.
