Catalog type History
Provenance Used 5-6 years and occasionally for 10 years. Used in Dr. Metzger’s lab in Section on Chemical Immunology, ARB, NIAMD and all its other names. The planimeter was used to measure areas. Dr. Metzger used it to estimate the relative areas under a "peak" in a photograph (e.g. of a schlieron pattern) of an ultracentrifuation experiment in which digitalized data are not available. The alternative was to cut out the peaks from a paper tracing and to weigh them, which worked just about as well (per Dr. Metzger).
